BATTEN (1925 - 2006) was the Chairman of the Board of the management consulting and human resource development firm, Batten, Batten, Hudson and Swab, Inc., whose headquarters were located in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. A prolific writer, Batten also published a number of books on management, including Developing a Tough-Minded Climate...for Results (1965); Beyond Management by Objectives (1966); Dare to Live Passionately (1966); Guide to Successful Living (1969); The Confidence Chasm (co-authored with his daughter Gail Batten, 1972); and Expectations and Possibilities (1981). Mr. Batten reached thousands of people with his philosophy of "tough-minded" living and working; a bold and articulate author, his works enriched the lives of many managers.
