In 1913, naval midshipmen de Vere Smith and 'Dickie' Bird are recruited by the mysterious secret service to spy on the German Navy's plans. They bring home the revelation that Germany intends to use the unguarded Frisisan Islands to attack Britain. It isn't until a year later - too late - that the Admiralty realise they should have listened.
