Back in October last year there was a huge re-enactment of the battle of Hastings at its site, on the south coast of England.
Hastings is perhaps the most famous battle ever fought on English soil and resulted in William, Duke of Normandy, becoming King of England. Popularly known as William the Conqueror, his victory over King Harold and his forces was a pivotal turning point in English history, the influences of which are still to be seen today.
This book records the re-enactment in great detail and, uniquely, shows through the re-enactors, the replication of scenes from the world famous Bayeux tapestry. The tapestry, which can still be seen in Normandy, is one of the most important treasures from the period and is a source for much of what we know about the battle today.
The weaponry, equipment, dress, logistics and living conditions of the soldiers from both sides are covered in great detail as is the terrain and the tactics of the two armies.
This spectacular full color book will appeal to all interested in the Medieval period.
