The Development of Indicator Systems - Using the Elbe Floodplain ('Elbaue') as an Example
River valley areas are among Europe's most complex and species-rich ecological systems. Owing to massive human impacts, these habitats have been greatly modified. Until now, there has been no reliable and easily implemented procedure with which to record and evaluate these modifications. This book presents an indicator system which, on the basis of selected and easily measurable biotic and abiotic parameters, allows ecological impacts to be accurately assessed. The authors present sound, effective and easily implementable instruments, as required in planning practice as a basis for professional environmental assessment. The CD-ROM features appendices, maps and texts.
