Charles James Lever (1806-1872) was an Irish novelist and editor. He gained fame with his early novels "Harry Lorrequer" (1839) and "Charles O'Malley" (1841), which were noted for their adventurous plots and humorous style. Lever spent much of his life abroad, particularly in continental Europe, which influenced the settings and themes of his later works.
