Faithbook 4 is the fourth volume of reflections and teachings on spirituality and religion posted on Facebook and Quora by Br John Martin Sahajananda. Martin lived for many years at Shantivanam Ashram in southern India with his teacher and friend, Dom Bede Griffiths. Drawing on his own understanding and experience of Christ, and wrapping these in the gift-paper of his deep knowledge of Vedic philosophy and spirituality, Br Martin offers a way of looking at the person of Jesus Christ and the Christian revelation that makes sense to a contemporary society that has largely rejected Christianity. At the heart of his teaching is the understanding that everything that Jesus Christ, as Son of Man, experienced and said about himself, can be experienced and said by anybody with eyes to see and ears to hear. Just as Christ said, "I am the Father are one", so each person can say that they are one with God. Just as Christ said, "I am the way the truth and the life", so each person can say that they are the way, the truth and the life. Martin shows that this is what God intended when Christ offered the gift of freedom and the peace that goes beyond all understanding. He shows that this reality is not an invitation to self-glorification on the part of the spiritual seeker, but it is a reality that comes into view only when the limited self of individual consciousness is transcended. It only comes into view when the spiritual seeker gives up seeking. It only comes into view when the seeker enters the unitive world which in the Christian tradition is known as love. Christ offers freedom and this freedom becomes available when you discover who you really are. The Faithbook series speak to the modern world and shows how the limitations of Christianity can be transcended and how this opens the door to the transformative experience of divine life at the heart of each person.
