Growing up in South London in the 1980s with only four television channels and a corner shop newspaper, Sunil Sajjan absorbed the world the way everyone did - through the filter of a small number of institutions that shaped not just what people knew, but how they felt about it. The racial framing in crime reporting that he noticed as a child before he had words for it. The political identity installed in him before he was old enough to choose one. The people he dismissed as conspiracy theorists, without ever checking whether their questions deserved an answer.
