A Book of Borrowed Light is a lyrical investigation of film technology, from the dream-logics of twentieth-century experimental and art films to film's role in surveillance, worker discipline, and the construction of gender and race. In these lyric poems and brief theoretical essays, film and photography are both metaphors for and creators of the psyche, and the theater is a space of interiority and projection, of desire, of what shapes we think our lives could or should take.
